Top Ten Absolute Favorite Books of the Last 5 Years

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and the Bookish

I first must preface this by saying that I don't think these are necessarily the BEST books I've read in the last 5 years, but they are definitely the ones that stuck with me to where I can't stop thinking about them. I enjoyed them the most - for whatever reason.

(In order of the date I read them - most recent first.)

1.  The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay
I just loved the love story in this one. It was a really in-depth look at the characters and I just felt really happy when I finished it. It's a young adult contemporary romance.

2. Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover
This was a really unique take on a love story for me. Music played such a huge role and I really enjoyed that. I also didn't expect some of the turns it took. It is the book that really cemented my love of Colleen Hoover. It is a new adult contemporary romance.

3. Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
This was my first Rainbow Rowell book and I just loved the way she wrote her characters. Eleanor was one of my favorite female characters ever. She was just so resilient in the face of hardship. I loved reading their story and I again loved the role of music in the book. It is a young adult contemporary romance.

4. The Selection series by Kiera Cass
This is a young adult dystopian series that reminds me a lot of the story of Esther in the Bible mixed with The Bachelor mixed with Cinderella and if that doesn't make you want to read it, I just don't know what will. It was one of the most enjoyable reads all the way through that I've had in a long time.

5. The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion
I have no idea what keeps pulling this book back to the forefront of my mind. I just loved the narrator. I laughed out loud several times while I was reading this - which is extremely rare for me. I'm way more likely to cry when reading a book than I am to laugh out loud. It is an adult contemporary romance - the narrator is a man and it's just so unique!

6. Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire
This is a new adult contemporary romance and it's pretty steamy, but it's also just so fun. It appears to be a bad guy/good girl kind of story with a good girl and an underground fighter guy, but it develops more than that throughout the book. They make a bet and she loses and has to live with him for a month. Just imagine the tension & fun that entails!!

7. Divergent series by Veronica Roth
Another young adult dystopian series that if you haven't heard of, I just don't even know what to say to you. Strong female character, dystopian Chicago, it's just all around enjoyable & action-packed. I loved it!

8. My Name is Memory by Ann Brashares
This is one of my favorite books and I continue to be so sad that I haven't heard anything about a sequel!! I thought it was so fabulous and it appears that a lot of people agreed with me. It's a love story through time with characters who are reborn in other people's bodies and have to find each other again. It's just really interesting. It is an adult contemporary (fantasy?) romance by the author of The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants.

9. Hunger Games series by Suzanne Collins
Yet another young adult dystopian series that you have hopefully heard of. This is fabulous. I will say I liked it less as the series went on, but it was still an overall absolute favorite for me. It again is just a unique story and action packed and fun to follow with a little romance thrown in!

10. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
I loved this book and this movie and I enjoyed the historical aspect of it as well as seeing what circus life was like before. It was really enjoyable and while I don't remember all parts of it, I do remember loving it so much that the memory of how much I loved it always comes back, even if the specific details don't. I need to see if there are more by her. This is an adult historical fiction/romance.
