Red Queen

Red Queen
by: Victoria Aveyard

Should you read it?: Yes
Category: Young Adult

From Amazon: Mare Barrow's world is divided by blood--those with common, Red blood serve the Silver- blooded elite, who are gifted with superhuman abilities. Mare is a Red, scraping by as a thief in a poor, rural village, until a twist of fate throws her in front of the Silver court. Before the king, princes, and all the nobles, she discovers she has an ability of her own.

To cover up this impossibility, the king forces her to play the role of a lost Silver princess and betroths her to one of his own sons. As Mare is drawn further into the Silver world, she risks everything and uses her new position to help the Scarlet Guard--a growing Red rebellion--even as her heart tugs her in an impossible direction. One wrong move can lead to her death, but in the dangerous game she plays, the only certainty is betrayal.

Things I Liked:
Oh. My. Gosh. All the feels for this book! I loved it so much. It was the first time that I have been genuinely shocked by something at the ending. Other people may have seen it coming & usually I am one of those people, but no. It totally had me! I can't give it away, but oooooo it was good.

I loved the love triangle. Love triangles can be hit or miss for me. I actually don't like it when I have one serious favorite because then the love triangle just gets super annoying, but I genuinely liked both guys!! Which made it all that much more crazy for me as the book went on.

I also thought the story itself was super unique. I just loved the idea. She has created a truly wonderful and entertaining world to enter into for a little bit. I can't wait to see where the rest of the series goes!

Things I Didn't:
I feel like I've said this so much lately with my reviews, but I genuinely can't think of anything I didn't like!

Overall: This is an excellent debut novel & new dystopian series!

March 2015: Month in Review

Number of Books Read: 3

Favorite: Confess by Colleen Hoover

On the Fence by: Kasie West
Confess by: Colleen Hoover
Rule by: Jay Crownover

This month I didn't read many, but I LOVED each one of them! Picking a favorite was hard. I think Kasie West's books are just all absolutely adorable. Every single one I read I love. They're Young Adult and just super fun, cute romances. Colleen Hoover is one of my favorite New Adult authors, so hers are a little more steamy, but still in the range that I think the majority of people would enjoy them. Rule is the first book in the Marked Men series by Jay Crownover. I wasn't sure how I would feel about it at first, because the series as a whole focused on a group of guys who work in and around a tattoo shop in Denver. They're mostly tattooed & pierced & all that and this was my first one of those. I ended up really loving it and reading the rest of the series the next month! They're steamier than Colleen Hoover books. But still, Confess was my favorite because really, Colleen Hoover can do no wrong in my mind.
